Flywheel

Design focused managed WordPress built for creatives and agencies, now part of WP Engine, with the polish and the premium price that implies.

Flywheel is managed WordPress aimed squarely at designers, freelancers and agencies rather than first time site owners. The pitch is workflow: a clean dashboard, free staging, nightly backups, a built in CDN, the Local development app and agency friendly extras like collaboration and the ability to transfer billing to a client once a site ships. It has been owned by WP Engine since 2019 and now shares its Genesis and Local tooling, though the two products still run as separate platforms. Performance is good and support is WordPress savvy. The tradeoffs are the ones common to the managed tier: plans start at $15 a month for a small site and climb quickly, monthly visits are capped with overage charges, there is no bundled email hosting, and it only hosts WordPress. For an agency or creative who lives in WordPress and values the workflow, it is a polished, recommendable choice.
