★ Editor’s Choice
Squarespace
Best for design led sites
The most consistently polished builder on the list. Squarespace templates look professional out of the box, and the editor keeps you on the rails so a non designer still ships something tasteful. You trade some deep layout control for that polish, and there is no free plan.
The most versatile mainstream builder, with a feature for almost everything from bookings to a real store. The drag anywhere editor is freeing and occasionally messy, and the AI builder gets a draft up quickly. Templates cannot be swapped once chosen.
The closest a visual tool gets to hand built. Webflow gives designers true control over layout, interactions and clean output, plus a capable CMS. The learning curve is real, and pricing climbs once you add CMS items and editor seats.
Still the benchmark for selling at any volume, with checkout, inventory and shipping that just work. As a general website builder it is narrower and pricier, and transaction fees apply unless you use Shopify Payments. Pick it when commerce is the point.
The managed path into WordPress, with the best writing and publishing experience here. Lower tiers are limited and real plugin power starts at the Business plan. Worth it when the site is content first and you want room to grow.
A design tool turned site builder that produces sharp, animated pages quickly. The free tier and modern templates make it a fast start for landing pages and portfolios. Commerce and large content models are thinner than the all rounders.
A capable AI assisted builder bundled with cheap hosting, hard to beat on first term price. The editor is simpler than Wix or Squarespace and the ecosystem smaller. Watch the renewal rate, which sits well above the intro price.
The fastest way to a tidy brochure site, with hosting, domain and email in one place. It is deliberately simple, so design control and growth headroom are limited. Fine for a straightforward presence, less so for ambition.
This category has an open featured placement. A sponsored listing is clearly labeled and links out; it buys visibility, never a rank. Our editorial ranking above is unaffected.
