Xero
Clean, modern cloud accounting that includes unlimited users on every plan, with a deep app ecosystem behind it.
Xero is the closest rival to QuickBooks Online and the easier tool to live in day to day. The interface is clean, bank reconciliation is fast, and crucially every plan includes unlimited users, so growing teams are not punished for adding seats. The app marketplace is large, multicurrency and projects arrive on the top tier, and the reporting has steadily improved. The catch is the entry plan: Early strictly caps how many invoices and bills you can enter each month, US payroll runs through a partner rather than fully native, and phone first support is limited compared with the help most owners expect.

Held against it
Ease and seat value lead, entry limits are the trade.
Xero scores high on ease, value and integrations, helped by unlimited users on every plan. The soft spots are the capped Early tier and US payroll, which leans on a partner rather than a fully native feature.
