Grid-native, which is how production planners already work, with genuine dependencies and critical path, resource management and portfolio reporting that stands up to an ops review. It maps cleanly onto build schedules and connects to the ERP without heroics. The interface is dense and the Business tier is where the real capability lives, so budget for that — but for coordinating a plant it beats the prettier tools on the work that matters.
If your bottleneck is people and machine capacity rather than the schedule itself, Wrike's workload view and resource management are the strongest here, and its custom workflows fit an engineering-to-production handoff well. It is less spreadsheet-native than Smartsheet, so planners who live in grids adapt more slowly, and the Business tier is annual-only with a seat floor. For capacity-constrained plants it is the sharper instrument.
The tool people actually open. Colour-coded boards, timeline and Gantt views, automations and dashboards make production status legible to a floor supervisor who will never touch a formula. That adoption is worth real money. But it is lighter on true resource and capacity planning than Smartsheet or Wrike, so when scheduling gets constrained you feel the ceiling. Right when getting the plant to use anything is the harder problem.
Excellent for coordinating the non-floor work that surrounds production — NPI, procurement, quality actions, launches — with clean timelines and portfolios across departments. Where it falls short is deep resource and capacity planning; it manages the project of building, less the constrained scheduling of making. Use it as the coordination layer over the plant, not as the production planner itself.
The most features per dollar — Gantt, workload, docs and dashboards at a low seat price, which appeals to a plant watching cost. The catch is sprawl: it does a great deal adequately and demands real configuration discipline, or it becomes a mess nobody trusts for scheduling. A capable, cheap option if you have someone who will own the setup; a swamp if you do not.
A first-rate tool for software teams and exactly the wrong shape for a shop floor. Its sprints, backlogs and issue types model iterative development, not production scheduling or capacity planning, and forcing a build plan into it is a fight you lose slowly. The one exception is genuine embedded-software or engineer-to-order dev work. For making physical things, this is the trap dressed up as a "powerful" PM tool.

Reach for monday.com when getting the floor to actually use the tool is the harder battle. The trap is Jira: it is superb for software and the wrong paradigm for production scheduling — unless you are literally building software, keep it out of the plant.
